Living Lerwick winter festival a huge success

On 24th November, Lerwick town centre was mobbed as people attended the first winter festival parade and Christmas light switch on.

BID Manager, Christena Irvine said: “We had no idea so many people would come to the event, it was fantastic to see so many Shetlanders on the street at one time. The looks on the bairns faces as they waved their wands to switch on the lights was definitely the highlight for me.

This first event has given us an excellent platform to build on. Next year, we will have more time to plan the winter festival and we will use the comments we receive about how to improve the event this year to make it even bigger and better.

Because the businesses paid for it themselves, I think it brought a feeling of community spirit to the town centre. The customers could also see that a lot of effort had gone in to create the event.”

The Shetland Times, Radio Shetland, Shetland News and ii magazine all covered the event. Links to the Shetland Times and Shetland News coverage are below.

The Shetland Times also did a piece on how the event boosted trade.
